The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has been informed that the Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department of Hong Kong, on 16th October 2017, suspended with immediate effect, the importation of poultry meat and other poultry products from three provinces in Italy. The three provinces are Ferrara, Bergamo and Brescia. The suspension is a result of notification from the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) of the outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N8 avian influenza in parts of Italy.
NAFDAC implores importers to ensure that they do not import the above product into Nigeria. All retail outlets and consumers in possession of the affected product should immediately stop their sale and use and submit them to the nearest NAFDAC office for appropriate action.
