The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has been notified by United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) that Olufela Yemitan, a Houston, Texas firm, is recalling approximately 45 pounds of Picante smoked Siluriformes product that was not presented at the U.S. point of entry for inspection. The product was illegally imported into the United States of America from Nigeria.
Although there have been no confirmed reports of adverse events due to consumption of these products, there is a reasonable probability that the consumption of the products can cause serious adverse health consequences.
Picante Fishes is presented as 1.00 lb plastic-wrapped packages of dried, smoked Siluriformes with “spicy catfish smoked with tomato pepper sauce ready to eat now now!!!!!” written on the label.

Picante Siluriformes product is not registered by NAFDAC and was illegally exported to United States without the knowledge or regulatory supervision of NAFDAC. The quality and safety of the product is therefore not guaranteed.
NAFDAC implores the General Public to desist from the purchase and consumption of Picante Siluriformes product. Anybody in possession of this product should submit it to the nearest NAFDAC office.
