The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has been informed that the Chilean Institute of Public Health has issued a warning on the circulation of fake hydroxychloroquine sulphate-based medication tablets, Reumazine 200mg with Lot Number 0307620/F18705 and expiry date of March, 2022.
The fake Reumazine 200mg is already in circulation in some African countries. The administration of this product could pose serious health risks to patients.

Hydroxychloroquine is used to prevent or treat malaria caused by mosquito bites. It is also used to treat certain auto-immune diseases (lupus, rheumatoid arthritis). It can reduce skin problems in lupus and prevent swelling/pain in arthritis.
NAFDAC implores distributors, retailers and consumers to exercise caution and vigilance to avoid the distribution, sale and use of the fake hydroxychloroquine sulphate-based medication tablets.
Members of the public in possession of the fake product are implored to discontinue sale or use and submit stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.
Healthcare professionals and consumers are encouraged to report adverse events or side effects related to the use of this product to the nearest NAFDAC office, NAFDAC PRASCOR (20543 TOLL FREE from all networks), via pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng or via the NAFDAC ADR e-Reporting platform available at www.nafdac.gov.ng
