The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has been informed that the Health Sciences Authority (HSA), Singapore recalled three products being marketed on e-commerce platforms as weight-loss supplements. The products have been found to contain potent medicinal ingredients.
The products Clinic K and RO Slim Booster both contain sibutramine, a banned substance that could increase the risk of heart attack and stroke, while Rozell Detox contains a potent laxative sennoside.
All three products are sold on e-commerce platforms such as Shopee, Carousell and Qoo10, and social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram.

NAFDAC implores importers, distributors, retailers, healthcare providers and consumers to exercise caution and vigilance to avoid the importation, distribution, sale and use of the affected weight-loss supplements.
NAFDAC also implores that members of the public should be cautious of health products that carry exaggerated claims of delivering unexpectedly quick and miraculous results. Consumers should avoid purchasing health products from unfamiliar sources and exercise caution when purchasing such products online.
Members of the public in possession of the implicated weight-loss supplements are implored to discontinue sale or use and handover stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.
Healthcare professionals and consumers are encouraged to report adverse events or side effects related to the use of the products to the nearest NAFDAC office, NAFDAC PRASCOR (20543 TOLL FREE from all networks), via pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng or via the NAFDAC ADR e-Reporting platform available at www.nafdac.gov.ng
