Public Alert No. 14/2025 – Alert on the Declaration of Over 100 Medications as Substandard by Indian Authorities

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) is in receipt of information regarding drugs that were declared Not of Standard Quality(NSQ) by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) India. This declaration follows result of analyzed drug samples picked from sales/distribution point, with outcome of Not of Standard Quality (NSQ). Some of the affected pharmaceutical companies were reported to have subsidiaries, partners and products in Nigeria. Below is the list of affected companies.

  10. Mascot Health Series Pvt Ltd
  11. Micron Pharmaceutical
  12. Orison Pharma International
  13. Rivpra Formulation Pvt Ltd

  15. Symbiosis Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd

Risk
Administering substandard medicines poses significant risks to patient health and public health. These risks include poisoning, treatment failure, drug resistance, and even death. Substandard medicines may contain toxic substances, incorrect ingredients, or incorrect dosages, leading to severe adverse effects.

The Agency hereby advice Importers, distributors, retailers and healthcare professionals to exercise caution and vigilance in any transaction involving the above companies to avoid the importation, distribution, sale, and use of substandard products. All medical products/ medical devices must be obtained from authorized/licensed suppliers. The products’ authenticity and physical condition should be carefully checked.

Additionally, Importers must go through NAFDAC accredited CRIA Agents in the country of manufacture to ensure importation of quality products.

NAFDAC zonal directors and state coordinators have been directed to conduct surveillance and mop up any affected products from the above companies within the zones and states in Nigeria.

Healthcare professionals and consumers are advised to report any suspicion of the sale of substandard and falsified medicines or medical devices to the nearest NAFDAC office, NAFDAC on 0800-162-3322 or via email: sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng

Similarly, healthcare professionals and patients are also encouraged to report adverse events or side effects related to the use of medicinal products or devices to the nearest NAFDAC office, or through the use of the E-reporting platforms available on the NAFDAC website www.nafdac.gov.ng or via the Med- safety application available for download on android and IOS stores or via e-mail on pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng
