NAFDAC joins the rest of the world in global recognition of the second edition of World Food Safety Day on 7th June 2020. In December 2018 the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming 7th June of every year as World Food Safety Day. This year the event takes place in extremely challenging times for our world, with the COVID-19 pandemic. This demands that innovative and creative ways of assuring global food safety are embraced by all in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. We recognize this global celebration of World Food Safety Day as an added opportunity to situate food safety as a very significant issue of public health concern especially in the light of safe, nutritious and wholesome food being important for boosting immunity and improving the body’s natural defense in fighting diseases. Where food is unsafe our nutritional goals cannot be achieved.
The Agency wishes to seize this opportunity of the second World Food Safety Day to remind the public that food safety is indeed everybody’s business and a shared responsibility with government: from producers to vendors and consumers, we all have a role to play in ensuring safe food for our population.
NAFDAC………Safeguarding the health of the Nation!!!
