Dr. Patrick Leonard Omokpariola, is the Director Chemical Evaluation and Research in the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). His background is chemistry and his research interest is on the impact and interaction of discrete organic compounds in the atmosphere together with their impact on the biosphere. His over 20 years’ experience in the regulation and control of chemicals has led to the development of control measures for the sound management of chemicals in Nigeria and five other countries in Africa.
Dr Omokpariola has also helped to initiate and enforce the implementation of chemical safety and security as part of the national policy on chemical management. He has helped to set up the National Chemical Laboratory at the Central Laboratory Complex Oshodi Lagos and initiated a comprehensive training Programme for the analysis of Chemical Weapon agents as well as their precursors and degradation products. He has also helped to develop the National Chemical and Biological Emergency Preparedness plan. He is a member of the national chemical risk and vulnerability assessment team. He is a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria and the Chemical Society of Nigeria
