OVERVIEW OF THE DIRECTORATE

The Directorate undertakes its responsibility through effective and efficient control of channels whereby regulated products are imported and exported by; issuance of e-licenses for importation and exportation, assessment for payment of NAFDAC charges, vetting of documents for endorsement, inspection of consignment and sampling of products (where applicable) according to approved sampling guide for laboratory analysis and release of consignment.

Functions of the Directorate
The mandate of the Directorate amongst other things embraced the following statutory functions:

  • To regulate and control the importation of drugs, food, medical devices, cosmetics, detergents, drinks and bottled water.
  • Screening of import documents before the issuance of endorsement and release.
  • To undertake the inspection and sampling (where applicable) of imported food, drugs, medical devices, cosmetics, Chemicals, detergents, drinks and bottled water at ports of entry before release.
  • To control the exportation of regulated products and issue quality certification for such regulated products.


SERVICES

  • Clearance of imported regulated items on PIDCARMS using this link (https://ports.nafdac.gov.ng) by submission of declaration by importers for cost assessment, issuance of e-invoice, payment online or via banks and generating NAFDAC e-receipt.

Vetting and Endorsement of import documents

Inspection and Sampling (where applicable)

Release of Consignment

  • Clearance of exported NAFDAC regulated products

Intending exporter(s) submit request through the single window for trade (https://trade.gov.ng) for vetting. Inspection is conducted and product(s) sampled (where applicable) according to approved sampling guide for laboratory analysis.

Upon satisfactory inspection and laboratory analysis, export e-license is issued.

  • Issuance of Import e-license

Submission of relevant documents is done through the single window trade portal (https://trade.gov.ng) and upon successful vetting of documents and payment made, approval is granted by the Director Ports inspection directorate for issuance of e-license for;

  • Packaging Materials
  • Borderline Products
  • Donated Items
  • Samples for machine trials and research purposes
  • Frozen sea foods
