Dr. Abimbola Opeyemi ADEGBOYE holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Food Technology from the University of Ibadan, a Master of Science (MSc.) in Environmental Resources Management and Doctor of Philosophy in Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicines from the Lagos State University (2001) and University of Ibadan (2011) respectively. He joined NAFDAC in January 2000 as Principal Regulatory Officer and rose through the ranks, serving meritoriously and with recognitions for excellence in service.
Prior to his posting as the Director, Ports Inspection, he has served at various times as:
- Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics (PRS) 2021, coordinating the planning, monitoring, and evaluation of plans, programmes, and projects of the Agency, conducting research on NAFDAC activities as well as other subjects of interest to the Agency.
- Technical Assistant 2016-2020 and Special Assistant to the Director General (2021) and once headed the Laboratory Services Directorate (2015-2016).
- Project Coordinator of some national and agency projects including Total Diet Study Project of FAO/WHO, IAEA projects in NAFDAC, STDF/ITC NEPC project on Shea butter and Sesame Seeds – NAFDAC’s component.
Currently, he still serves as:
- Lead contact and representative of the Agency in running some of MoU’s between NAFDAC and Universities and other bilateral relations. He currently represents the DG on the Technical Advisory Board of the African Centre of Excellence in Mycotoxin and Food Safety of the Federal University of Technology Minna, Nigeria where he also teaches postgraduate students as an unpaid industrial partner cum temporary lecturer in Introduction to Food Safety, Food Laws, Standards and Regulations, Risk Analysis and Prevention of Toxicity at the African Centre of Excellence in Mycotoxin and Food Safety, Federal University of Technology Minna Nigeria, as well as on the Advisory Board of Sodium Salt Study of the Cardiovascular Unit of the University of Abuja.
- Pioneer Head, and coordinator the Office of Trade and International Relations (OTIR) and Office of Research (OOR) both conceptualized by, and domiciled in the Director General’s Office.
As Director Ports Inspection, he oversees the import and export regulatory operations of the Agency in all the nation’s seaports, airports and land borders where he supervises a robust team of staff and systems to ensure that only the right quality regulated products are allowed entry and exit through these portals.
Dr. Adegboye is happily married with children.
