NAFDAC issues a marketing authorization number that is unique to each holder. the NAFDAC registration number must be clearly displayed on every product registered by NAFDAC 

The directorate is mandated to regulate and control the manufacture, importation, exportation, sales, advertisement, distribution and use of; veterinary drugs, veterinary vaccines and biologics, pet food (food for cat, dogs and other companion animals such as parrot etc), animal feed (complete cattle feed, fish feeds, poultry feeds etc), animal feed concentrates, premix, additives, supplements and fish meal- raw materials in feed production, pesticides and agrochemicals (fertilizers, soil conditioners, plant growth substance etc)

you do not need a consultant to register a product.  you either check for information about the product on the NAFDAC website or visit the NAFDAC office nearest to you. 

A qualified technical officer refers to a full-time employee of the establishment who possesses the technical competence related to the establishment’s activities and health products by virtue of his/her profession, training or experience. a qualified technical officer has the responsibility to ensure compliance with the technical requirements of NAFDAC.

1. Foreign facility GMP certification is valid for 3 years.
2. Local GMP certification is valid for 2 years.
3. Listing has a validity of 2 years.
4. Full registration is valid for 5 years.

The renewal process should be initiated within 90 days before the expiration of the certificate to avoid administrative charges for late registration 

An application for renewal of certificate received after its date of expiration shall be subject to a surcharge or penalty  

If documentation, facility inspection and product laboratory analysis are satisfactory, it takes; 

120 days for veterinary drugs 

90 days for animal feed/premixes and pesticide  

(this timeline covers the period from application by the applicant, satisfactory facility inspection, satisfactory lab sample analysis and approval by NAFDAC FDR committee) 

Applications can be delayed in cases when the documents submitted, the facility inspection are not satisfactory, or/and the product sample fails laboratory analysis.

We no longer register antibiotics with more than two (2) active ingredients in the formulation due to the rapid increase of antimicrobial resistance found in man and animals. 

Pesticides  are only to be sold by marketers that have been listed by NAFDAC and not in the open market. 

Listing certificate is issued by VMAP to toll millers, pesticide/ agro-chemical marketers after they have met stipulated requirements. it authorizes them to sell pesticides, agro-chemicals, and milled feed in Nigeria. the certificate is valid for 2 years. the validity starts after the facility and laboratory analysis have been deemed satisfactory where applicable.

NAFDAC conducts surveillance aimed at identifying dealers of fake/substandard products and issuing appropriate sanctions/enforcement action against any defaulter.
