Meet The Director, North Central (NC) Zone, Pharm. Shaba Mohammed

Pharm. Shaba Mohammed is a seasoned Food and Drug Regulator and an astute Administrator of international repute and standing with over thirty years work experience.

Pharm Mohammed who was born on 1st December 1966 in Bida Niger State, holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm.) Degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1989) and Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Business School Netherlands Buren, Netherlands (2009) among several management certifications.

He is a fellow of Institute of Corporate Administration (FCIA), Institute of Corporate Executives of Nigeria (FICEN) and Institute of Management Consultants (FIMC), a Certified Management Consultant (CMC); and a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (MPSN).

Pharm. Mohammed started his professional career as an Intern Pharmacist with General Hospital, Minna, Niger State in 1989. He did his NYSC with General Hospital Mubi in the defunct Gongola State in 1990. He was the Pharmacist in charge of General Hospital New Bussa, Niger State from 1991 and joined Pfizer in April 1993. He resigned from Pfizer on 27TH March 2000 to join NAFDAC as a Principal Regulatory Officer and member of the Federal Task Force on Counterfeit and Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Foods (FTF).

He was Head of Apapa Ports and Murtala Mohammed International Airports at different times to manage NAFDAC activities till 2013 from where he was posted Narcotics and Controlled Substances of NAFDAC and returned to Investigation and Enforcement and the Federal Task Force in June 2014 to strengthen the fight against Substandard and Falsified drugs until March 2018. He was transferred to Kano as NAFDAC State Coordinator to restore the integrity and image of NAFDAC. He collaborated with the security agencies, various stakeholders and the traditional institution to drastically reduce the incidences of Drug Abuse and Substandard and Falsified Medical and other related products in circulation.

Mohammed was instrumental to many innovative reforms on importation and exportation of NAFDAC Regulated products, investigation of celebrated cases of Substandard and Falsified Medical and other NAFDAC regulated products. He participated in the drafting of several Standard Operating Procedures, Guidelines and Regulations in use by NAFDAC today. He was the Face of TRUSCAN – one of the Cutting Edge Technologies which gave NAFDAC global recognition as an innovative regulatory agency in Drug Detection Technology.

He is widely travelled and has participated as International Speaker on several anti-counterfeiting activities among which are: Interpol (Lagos, Accra, New Delhi) International Institute Against Counterfeit Medicines (IRACM) Paris (April, 2016), World Health Organization Surveillance and Monitoring System of Substandard and Falsified (SF) Medical Products Addis Ababa (August, 2015); Rx-360 on “Fighting Fakes” Washington DC (June 2015); APEC activities on Medical Products integrity and Supply Chain Security in Philippines (January and August, 2015), Seoul, South Korea, (May, 2013), Singapore (2012); The Indian Patient Safety, Drug Technology Detection and Criminal Investigation program New Delhi, (September 2012), Pfizer collaboration on Anti-counterfeiting Ascoli Piceno, Italy, (May, 2013) and International Regulatory Forum, Ottawa, Canada (October 2011) among others.

Mohammed was a Federal Government delegate to the 6th Nigeria Cameroon Joint Commission, Yaoundé (April 2014). He has travelled to China, Thailand, Ghana, Malaysia, India, etc. to conduct GMP Inspection of factories on foods, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices and other regulated products for importation into the Nigerian and exportation to other African markets.

Pharm. Shaba Mohammed is a member of Ikoyi Club 1938 for his recreational activities. He was conferred with a Nigeria Merit Award 2019 as an “Icon of Nation Building” in Recognition of Immense Contribution and Selfless Service to Humanity by Northern Peace Tourism Journalists, awarded a “Certificate of Achievement” as “Most Outstanding NAFDAC State Coordinator in Northern Nigeria 2020” in Recognition of the Outstanding Role and Contribution towards National Development, by Arewa Media Practitioners.

He is a family man with several children and loves playing Golf, Swimming and Traveling.
