NAFDAC joins the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, nutrition partners, and the global community in celebrating World Breastfeeding Week 2026

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) proudly joins the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, development partners, healthcare professionals, and the global community in celebrating World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) 2026, observed from 1st to 7th August 2026.

This year’s theme, “Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works,” highlights the importance of building on proven strategies and strengthening support systems that enable mothers to breastfeed successfully and give every child the best possible start in life.

Breastfeeding remains one of the most effective ways to ensure child survival, healthy growth, and cognitive development. It provides infants with optimal nutrition, strengthens their immunity, protects against childhood illnesses, and contributes significantly to maternal health and well-being.

As Nigeria continues to advance its public health and nutrition goals, NAFDAC reaffirms its commitment to promoting optimal infant and young child feeding practices, safeguarding the quality and safety of food products, and supporting initiatives that create enabling environments for breastfeeding mothers.

During this commemorative week, NAFDAC encourages:

  • Mothers and families to embrace and support exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life and continued breastfeeding alongside complementary feeding thereafter.
  • Employers, institutions, and communities to create breastfeeding-friendly environments.
  • Healthcare providers and stakeholders to continue advocating for evidence-based breastfeeding practices.
  • All Nigerians to work together in protecting, promoting, and supporting breastfeeding as a cornerstone of national health and development.

Let us join hands to strengthen what works and build resilient, sustainable systems that protect, promote, and support breastfeeding for a healthier generation.

Happy World Breastfeeding Week 2026!
